Meet Your Breast Reduction Surgeon
John Reilly, MDDr. John Reilly is a board-certified plastic surgeon and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Griffin Hospital. He specializes in breast reduction surgery and has helped countless patients find lasting relief from the physical and emotional challenges of overly large breasts.

Are Your Breasts Holding You Back?
Large breasts can affect more than just how you look. They can interfere with your daily life, your comfort, and your health. If any of these feel familiar, breast reduction surgery may be the right next step.
“After my surgery, within 2 months I was running again and riding my horse. Those things were not possible for years before my breast reduction. This surgery changed my life! I highly recommend Dr Reilly and all of his staff!”
Three Goals. One Procedure.
Reduce
Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed to bring your breasts into proportion with your frame. The result is a lighter, more comfortable chest.
Lift
The breasts are repositioned higher on the chest wall, and the nipples are moved to a more natural location. Every reduction includes a lift.
Reshape
The remaining tissue is sculpted into a rounder, firmer contour that complements your body. The goal is a shape that looks natural and balanced.

What Happens on Surgery DayRecovery & Aftercare
Most patients return to light activity within one to two weeks. You will wear a compression bra as your body heals, and your final shape will continue to settle over the following months.
Learn About RecoveryUnderstanding Breast Reduction Scars
Scarring is a natural part of any surgical procedure. The type, placement, and visibility of your scars depend on the reduction technique used and how your body heals. With proper care, most scars fade to thin, light lines that are hidden under clothing and swimwear.
Anchor
Inverted-T / WiseThree incisions around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the fold. Used for larger reductions where significant tissue removal is needed. This is the most common technique and provides the most reshaping control.
Lollipop
VerticalThis technique uses two incisions. One around the areola and one running vertically down to the breast crease. There is no horizontal scar along the fold. It works for moderate reductions and results in less scarring with meaningful reshaping and lift.
Donut
PeriareolarA single incision around the areola only. Used for minor reductions, often with liposuction. This approach leaves limited visible scarring and is ideal for patients who need a modest decrease in size without significant reshaping.

Liposuction Only
No Visible IncisionFat is removed through tiny punctures using thin cannulas. No traditional incisions are needed. Best suited for patients whose excess volume is primarily fatty tissue rather than dense glandular tissue. Scarring is minimal to nonexistent.
Life After Breast Reduction
Breast reduction doesn’t just change how you look. It changes how you live. Here’s what our patients tell us makes the biggest difference.
Exercise, play with your kids, or just get through the day without back pain or shoulder strain holding you back.
Shop for clothes that actually fit. No more buying two sizes up or avoiding styles because of your chest.
Stand up straighter. Feel more confident. Stop worrying about unwanted attention or how you look in photos.
